  • CertPT (Level 6)
  • DipTESOL (Level 7)
  • TYLEC (Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate)

Introducing the Trinity CertPT

The Trinity College London Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) is a new Level 6 qualification that supports the professional development of English language teachers.

Promoting the development of pedagogical knowledge and skills, the Trinity CertPT is unique in enabling practising teachers with language proficiency below CEFR Level C1 to access specialist training and certification.

Trinity certified professional development

The Trinity CertPT draws upon qualified TESOL teachers’ existing knowledge of teaching practice and theory, while promoting the acquisition and refinement of specialist skills needed to develop and use effective teaching resources.

Course participants develop their ability to evaluate, adapt, create and reflect on the use of context-specific teaching resources.

Teaching contexts, for example, include teaching young learners, teaching English for specific or academic purposes, or teaching within CLIL (content and language integrated learning).

Unique assessment model

Depending on course provider arrangements, teachers can learn through face-to-face, online or blended courses. Because the CertPT assesses pedagogical ability rather than language ability, teachers have the the option of submitting written assignments for assessment solely in English, or bilingually in English and Mandarin, or English and Spanish.

The language of assessment of the written tasks is indicated on the CertPT certificate.

Allowing entrants to submit assessment tasks in their own language extends access to Trinity-certified professional development for practising teachers working in a range of different local teaching contexts.

Support for course providers

The CertPT must be delivered through Trinity-validated course providers.  Prospective providers can email tesol.admin@trinitycollege.com

Trinity provides course providers with access to training and resources, including course specifications, best practice guidance, marksheets and examples of benchmarked assessment.
