Transferring qualification credits

It is possible for universities and other institutions to use Trinity’s teacher education qualifications for credit transfer towards course learning. This is known as ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (RPL), ‘Accreditation of Prior Learning’ (APL) or ‘Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning’ (APEL), the name depending on the institution.

How many credits an institution will allow to be transferred depends on that institution, the alignment of learning/assessment outcomes of the Trinity course and the new course and also the number total number of hours (Total Qualification Time) listed for the Trinity course. As a general rule, every 10 hours of learning is work approximately 1-1.5 credits.

Links to the relevant section of the Ofqual qualifications framework follow, along with total qualification time and recommended credit load and level:

  • CertTESOL: 200 hours (30 credits at Level 5)
  • CertOT: 50 hours (5 credits at Level 4)
  • CertPT: 100 hours (10 credits at Level 6)
  • DipTESOL: 600 hours (60 credits at Level 7)

Note: The TYLEC is not Ofqual regulated on account of it only being offered in countries other than England and Wales. It therefore does not appear on the list of Ofqual-regulated qualifications.
