March 2024

Dear Trinity College London South Africa community,

Entries for the May Theory session and the May/June Practical sessions have either recently closed or are soon to close, depending on where in the country you find yourself. Please let us know if you've missed the deadline, and we'll make every attempt to accommodate you.

This shorter newsletter provides the perfect opportunity to highlight our 2023 Top Achievers lists. We've previously published the Top Achievers lists for the first half of 2023. In this month's newsletter, we're happy to share the larger list of Top Achievers for the second half of 2023, which includes the main practical Music, Rock & Pop, and Drama exam sessions, as well as the bulk of digital exam submissions. As ever, the results are impressive across the board, and we congratulate all involved.

Best regards,

Peter

Trinity UK Research

The piano songs we wish we could play!

Trinity College London has unveiled the results of a comprehensive nationwide study, coinciding with the anticipation surrounding the upcoming BRIT Awards. The study sheds light on Britain's most beloved piano tunes that people wish they could play.  95% of the nation think that the piano is one of the nicest instruments to listen to and is reflected in the 60% increase Trinity has had in piano exam enrolments since the pandemic.

Whether someone is a seasoned musician or a budding enthusiast, our study highlights the enduring love for music across all ages and backgrounds revealing that of those who took part four in ten (42%) admitting they love listening and playing music, spending as many as 15 hours a week listening to it. Over half (53%) say they would love to learn to play the piano, while 47% would like to be able to pick up a guitar and play a tune. Drums (21%), saxophone (14%), violin (10%) and harp (six percent) also make the list of the instruments Brits would love to play.
