Trinity College London - Western Cape

July 2023

Dear Trinity College London Western Cape Community,

The third term is in full swing and the second face-to-face exam session for music will take place from 14-17 August. The appointment slips have been sent out, so please contact me if you have not received yours yet.

The marks for the May theory and face-to-face music session have also been sent out, but it seems that not all the emails reached its intended recipients. Please contact me if you are still awaiting your results.

The certificates for the face-to-face sessions have arrived and I am working my through the emails. If you urgently require certificates for Matric portfolios, please let me know, so that I can prioritize those.

Work has started on the timetables for the exam session in October / November. We received more than 800 entries, which we are grateful for, but we are, however, struggling to match entries to payments. Trinity Western Cape is using an Investec account, as indicated in the emails issued for payments. Please ensure that you have updated these details, if you have loaded us as a beneficiary on your online banking platform. For each entry you will receive a unique reference number. Please ensure that you use the unique reference assigned to your entry, when making payment. We are working on changes to the system that will allow for more payment options in future, but for the time being we need to match entries to specific reference numbers.

Please note the entry closing date for the November 4th Theory session is next Monday; August 7th.

We often receive subject specific queries, which we are not always able to respond to. Due to POPIA, I cannot direct the relevant teacher to someone with the relevant expertise or knowledge without their express permission. Please let me know if you would like to be part of a support network where teachers can learn from one another.

Regards,

Carin

Exam Venues

If you've entered in-person exams this year you will have noticed we are handling venue assignment differently. Rather than giving definite venue options we now list preferred areas; e.g. "Winelands", "Northern Suburbs". This avoids disappointment if a specific venue you've selected turns out to be unavailable, and it greatly reduces the back-and-forth communication required to finalize the timetable. It also means we can more efficiently plan venues and examiner schedules once we have a sense of the number of students in each area. The downside is that you can't choose a specific favourite venue, but we ask for your understanding as we go through the timetabling process.

WC piano festival

Shane Goodall is presenting the Western Cape Piano Festival Competition from 11 to 16 September, with the prize-winners concert on Sunday, 17 September, to be held at the Westerford High School music department auditorium.

The competition began in 2022 as a pilot project and is now open to the piano teachers and school piano departments of Cape Town to celebrate piano teaching and to provide a platform for piano performance.

Please download an introduction to the festival here.
