Working with communicative projects entails designing units that cater to all of the learners’ needs in the classroom, be it at a linguistic level, at a cognitive level (ability and capacity of the learners to intake content and language), and at a social level. This webinar is designed to help teachers start the process in the creation of projects in a foreign language and in the students' first language. We will look at the first steps, essential elements, and other instructional procedures that are involved in the creation of projects, as well as look at real examples from students at different stages in the learning of a foreign language.
SCAFFOLDING IN PBL 1: Practical resources to explore previous knowledge in mixed ability classes
A second language is best acquired when students use it in real-life situations. As such, how can we make the learning of a second/foreign language more project-oriented in order to make learning more meaningful? One of the essential elements in the elaboration of projects is scaffolding. Scaffolding entails all the support we provide our students in the cognitive/linguistic and social domains. The objective of this webinar is to look at a variety of practical activities that are scaffolded and that help students create and build their projects. The activities are based on individual and group work, for spoken and written production in controlled and freer practice environments.
SCAFFOLDING IN PBL 2: Guiding the understanding of content in PBL – Practical lesson planning techniques and adaptation of coursebook material
One of the main elements of creating a PBL unit is SCAFFOLDING. In this webinar, we will explore different ways in which we can scaffold instruction, use and adapt coursework materials to include them as part of our PBL unit. We will also look into practical student-centred lesson planning techniques.
