Trinity's Alison Castle Kane and Alex Thorp delivered a presentation designed for teachers and administrators who are new to Trinity College London's Integrated Skills in English exam (ISE) in November 2020. ISE is Trinity's 4-skills, high stakes exam which is often used for university entrance purposes as evidence of English language proficiency.
Within this presentation, Alison and Alex explored the underlying principles of all Trinity exams which are:
- learner centred,
- designed to assess communicative competence, and
- which create a positive impact on both teaching and learning.
The structure of ISE was outlined, alongside the rationale for all of the tasks at each level of ISE. Practical advice on running ISE either face-to-face or by online delivery was provided along with information on how to become a registered exam centre.
Within the presentation, Alison and Alex also advised attendees on how to access the wealth of free resources and support available to help their learners prepare.
