Communication skills - A road to employability for young people, Catherine Sercombe

Trinity's Catherine Sercombe (Head of Performance) presented on 'Communication Skills - A road to employability for young people' at the Future of English Language Teaching Conference (FOELT) in June 2021.

Abstract

In this session, we will consider the need for a greater focus on developing young people’s skills for employability in the face of technological disruption.  We will look at the key skills young people need to carve out a successful future that will enable them to make a positive contribution to our global society.  The presenter will highlight the skills gaps that employers often identify – specifically, and importantly, the communication skills that go hand-in-hand with linguistic ability. Finally, we will look at practical ways that young people can develop and improve their communication skills to make them become more ‘career ready’.
