Implementing digital cultural heritage in teaching, Ivana Štiglec

Ivana Štiglec, Teacher and Teacher Ambassador for Croatia and coordinator of the Croatian teacher user group presented on 'Implementing digital cultural heritage in teaching' at the 6th annual Future of English Language Teaching Conference (FOELT) in June 2021.

Abstract

The role of cultural heritage in education has become crucial due to the globalisation processes. By integrating digital cultural heritage in education teachers and students develop their digital skills and strengthen common values and intercultural understanding. Europeana is a platform for digital cultural heritage and provides access to 60 million cultural items curated from thousands of museums, galleries, libraries and archives (images, text, audio files, video files, 3D content) available in over 37 languages. Teachers from all over Europe have been implementing Europeana extensively in their teaching in the last few years- European Schoolnet has created a network of around 130 teacher ambassadors and user group teachers who have been creating and testing innovative learning scenarios using Europeana resources. All learning scenarios explore diverse topics, use various web tools and teaching methods and all of them are available under Creative Commons license on the Teaching with Europeana blog. The blog contains over 500 learning sceanarios and more than 200 stories of implementation. This presentation will introduce teachers to the Europeana platform, Teaching with Europeana blog and a few best practice learning scenarios will be presented.
